M.Sc. in Applied chemistry

About:

The primary aim of the courses in Applied Chemistry is to contribute to the understanding of the chemical world through excellence in observational, theoretical, and experimental science, and to apply quantitative and appropriate methodologies to solve real-world problems.

Key focus areas and objectives typically include:

  • Defence Applications: Training in areas relevant to the defence sector, such as high energy materials (propellants, explosives), and other advanced materials.

  • Cutting-Edge Research: Developing expertise in contemporary fields like Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Polymer Science and Technology, and advanced materials.

  • Scientific and Analytical Skills: Imparting strong fundamental knowledge in core chemistry subjects (Inorganic, Organic, Physical) and training in modern instrumentation and analytical techniques.

  • Research & Innovation: Encouraging students to pursue cutting-edge research to provide solutions and advancements in science and technology for both the civil and defence sectors.

Minimum Educational Qualification

The basic requirement for the M.Sc. Applied Chemistry program is a Bachelor's degree in a relevant science discipline.

  • Qualifying Degree: A B.Sc. degree in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, or Biology from a recognized University/Institute.

  • Minimum Marks/CGPA: The candidate must have secured a minimum of 55% marks or a 6.0 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) in the qualifying examination (Graduation).

The selection process differs significantly based on the type of application:

Admission Category Selection Criteria Key Requirement

Scholarship / Non-Sponsored Allotment through CCMN (Centralized Counseling for M.Sc./M.Sc. (Tech.)).A   valid IIT-JAM score in the relevant subject (Chemistry).

Self-Finance Selection is typically based on the performance in a Written Test conducted by DIAT, followed   by an Interview .No IIT-JAM score is required, but a written test is mandatory.

Sponsored Selection is based on performance in a qualifying examination/interview (or both) conducted   by  the department .Candidates must be in service and officially sponsored by their organization (e.g.,   DRDO, Armed Forces, or Industry), which must commit to providing full salary and leave for the entire   program duration. Sponsored candidates are exempted from the JAM requirement.
