M.Sc. Food Technology

About:

The M.Sc. in Food Technology at the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune, is a highly specialized two-year postgraduate program dedicated to advancing the science and engineering of food, with a unique focus on defence, security, and challenging operational environments.

Offered by the Department of Applied Chemistry Energy and Enviroment , this flagship course is conducted in close collaboration with the Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL), Mysuru, a premier research arm of the DRDO. This partnership provides students with unparalleled exposure to cutting-edge military and high-altitude food research.

Educational Qualification:

  • A Basic Graduate Degree in one of the following disciplines from a recognized university or institution:

    • Food Science2

    • Food Technology

    • Nutrition

    • Sciences

    • Engineering

    • Agriculture

    • Veterinary disciplines

  • A minimum of 55% marks or a 6.0 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) in the qualifying examination (Bachelor's degree).

  • The candidate must have had a Science background at the 10+2 level (Higher Secondary).

     

 

DIAT generally offers this program to specific categories, with the selection process varying according

  1. Sponsored Category (MoD/DRDO & Services/Industry Sponsored)

    • Candidates must be in the service of the sponsoring organization, which must undertake to provide full salary and relieve them to pursue the course for its full duration.

    • Selection for sponsored candidates is generally based on their performance in a departmental Interview.

  2. Self-Financed Category (Non-Sponsored)

    • Admission is typically based on the score in a national-level entrance exam like the IIT-JAM (Joint Admission Test for M.Sc.).

    • In some admission cycles, DIAT may conduct its own Written Test for self-financed candidates, followed by an interview, to determine the merit list.
